Understand the experience pathway available to you
The guest recalls learning under another appraiser. That remains a pathway, but it is not the only possible route. The Appraisal Foundation describes PAREA as an alternative way to gain qualifying experience. State regulators decide whether to accept it, so aspiring appraisers should verify their state’s requirements.
Separate a forecast from the actual transition
The interview anticipated changes over the following years. Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac’s UAD 3.6 redesign entered broad production in January 2026. Professionals should use the latest implementation guidance and applicable exceptions, rather than treating the clip’s two-year description as the governing deadline.
Keep the purpose of the work in view
New reporting tools do not remove the need to understand property characteristics, comparable evidence and a supported valuation. The guest’s useful emphasis is learning the work well, not simply passing an exam or memorizing a form.
Does every new appraiser have to follow the same training route?
No. Available pathways and acceptance depend on the credential and state requirements.
