YOUR MORTGAGE, EXPLAINED
Use a busy economic week to prepare your next financing decision
Eric's July 2025 update highlights jobs, inflation and Federal Reserve news arriving close together. A busy release calendar can justify checking your plan, but one week does not determine every mortgage quote for the rest of a year.

Look beyond the announced policy rate
Mortgage pricing reflects longer-term market expectations and other factors, including the risks investors consider. The Fed's short-term rate is not a direct instruction to lower every mortgage quote. Ask how available pricing has changed for your specific loan, with points, fees and lock terms held visible.
Choose the action tied to your transaction
If you are shopping, refresh the payment and cash estimate for a real property. If you are under contract, review lock status, expiration and the decision deadline. The video describes possible negotiation opportunities during uncertainty, but confirm the circumstances of the actual listing. A quieter market moment does not make an unaffordable payment manageable.
Should I wait for every economic report before locking?
There is no universal rule. Review the risk of a worse quote, the cost of available protection and your closing schedule with the lender.
