YOUR MORTGAGE, EXPLAINED
Ask why a proposed home purchase fits your plans
The clip distinguishes understanding the mortgage steps from understanding the reason for buying. Eric says buyers often want help with timing and local market questions before they are ready to focus on paperwork.

Ask for the evidence behind the recommendation
If someone says buying now makes sense, ask which facts support that view for your household. If the explanation refers to home prices, request the geography, property type and time period. Conditions in one state do not establish the outlook for a particular neighborhood elsewhere.
Keep the unanswered questions visible
A useful advisor can explain scenarios and tradeoffs, but cannot promise that your home’s value will not decline. Discuss what would happen if you needed to move earlier than planned. Then connect the decision to the home’s usefulness, payment and cash position, as well as the market outlook.
Is understanding the application process enough to decide to buy?
It helps with execution. The purchase decision also needs a clear purpose, an affordable plan and a realistic ownership timeline.
