YOUR MORTGAGE, EXPLAINED
How can I set up mortgage autopay without missing a payment?
Set up automatic payments through your verified servicer, confirm the first debit date and check that the payment actually posts. Keep a reminder until the setup is working. Review it again after a servicing transfer or payment change. Enrollment alone does not prove the required payment was received.

Choose the right amount
Ask whether the draft follows the current amount due or stays at a fixed amount you entered. A fixed bank bill payment can fall short after escrow changes. Confirm how additional principal instructions work.
Leave a cash buffer
Match the withdrawal date with available funds and processing times. A paycheck arriving the same day does not guarantee money is available when the debit is attempted. Keep room for a delayed deposit.
Check the first transaction
Review both the bank account and mortgage account. Look for a successful posting rather than only a scheduled transaction. If it fails, contact the servicer promptly about an accepted payment method.
Revisit changes
Do not assume autopay transfers to a new servicer. Follow verified transfer instructions and avoid duplicate drafts. Keep old and new confirmations until the transition is complete.
