YOUR MORTGAGE, EXPLAINED

Mortgage technology should make room for a better conversation

The video describes using technology to simplify routine steps while keeping people involved in the decisions that matter. For a borrower, the test is whether the tools make the process clearer and easier to manage.

Use digital tools with a clear purpose

The clip mentions online applications, document handling and electronic signatures. These tools can organize information and reduce repetitive tasks, but the specific process depends on the lender and loan. Ask which steps can be completed digitally and what still requires review. An easy upload experience is helpful, but it is not the same as a completed approval.

Understand what information is being shared

Some lenders can obtain financial information through authorized connections. Before agreeing, ask what will be accessed and how it will be used. If you submit documents yourself, make sure they are complete and use the lender’s approved channel. Clear instructions matter as much as speed when the material includes sensitive personal information.

Keep a person available for the choices

Eric’s central argument is that reducing administrative work should create more time to understand the borrower’s needs. Ask who will explain payment options, answer questions and communicate remaining conditions. Technology is serving you well when it supports that conversation, rather than leaving you to interpret unfamiliar decisions alone.

Does an online approval message mean every condition is complete?

Not necessarily. Ask what has been reviewed and what remains before closing.

Should technology replace conversations with my loan officer?

It should support the process. You still need a clear way to discuss your goals, options and concerns.
