YOUR MORTGAGE, EXPLAINED

Slow down the decisions before the open house

Eric describes how an open house or builder visit can turn a casual search into a fast decision. Preparing earlier can give you a reference point when an appealing property creates pressure to act.

Decide the boundaries before the tour

Write down a comfortable payment, maximum cash you will use and what must remain after closing. List the features that are essential and those that are optional. These limits help you evaluate the property without rebuilding your entire plan in the showroom.

Start with planning, then update the details

A conversation months before buying can identify savings goals and questions. As the search becomes active, refresh the numbers, documents and loan terms. Early preparation reduces some surprises, but it cannot eliminate every issue or guarantee that you will never regret a decision.

Can I prepare before I know which home I want?

Yes. Work on your budget and priorities first, then obtain property-specific figures when a serious option appears.
