YOUR MORTGAGE, EXPLAINED

Choose insurance around the risks you need to manage

This interview clip connects useful insurance advice with explaining choices. A premium is easier to evaluate when you understand the coverage, exclusions and costs you would still carry yourself.

Name the risks before comparing the price

Ask what damage the policy covers, which losses it excludes and how much coverage applies. Review the home, belongings and liability protection separately. A lower premium can reflect different protection, not simply a better deal.

Make the out-of-pocket cost visible

Discuss deductibles and whether claim payments use replacement cost or actual cash value. These details affect the money you may need after a loss. Compare quotes using similar coverage and deductibles so the difference is meaningful.

Expect an explanation you can repeat

The clip also discusses helping a team advise clients effectively. For a homeowner, the practical test is whether you can explain your coverage choices afterward. Request a written summary and revisit the policy when your circumstances or renewal terms change.

Can one standard policy cover every possible loss?

No. Review exclusions and any separate coverage needed for risks that matter to your property.
